Magento / Adobe Commerce → Shopify

Magento to Shopify migration, handled as a program.

Moving off Magento or Adobe Commerce is rarely a data copy. The easy part is moving records; the real work is deciding what the Shopify store should look like, rebuilding custom logic, and proving continuity in SEO, accounts, orders, shipping and taxes. We run it as a staged replatforming program — no lost rankings, no broken checkout, no surprises at launch.

How we migrate Magento to Shopify

Model, map and validate — then cut over. Relationships hold because products come before customers, and customers before orders.

1. Discovery & topology

We map your Magento estate before touching data: product types, custom attributes, extensions, multi-store/store-view setup, B2B pricing and integrations. This is where the real decisions get made — one Shopify store with Markets vs several, and what your target model looks like.

2. Target-model design

We decide how each Magento product type lands on Shopify — simple, configurable, bundle and grouped products mapped to Shopify products, variants and metafields — before any import. Getting this right first is what prevents a post-launch catalogue rebuild.

3. Dry run into a dev store

Products and media first, customers second, historical orders last — imported into a Shopify development store and checked against the source. The dry run is where variant limits, redirect collisions and missing logic surface safely, before you have a launch date.

4. Theme & extension rebuild

Your storefront is rebuilt in Shopify (Liquid, sections and blocks) and every Magento extension is forced into one of four buckets: native in Shopify, replaced with an app, rebuilt as a Function/UI extension, or retired. Nothing critical disappears at launch.

5. SEO, redirects & cutover rehearsal

A complete 1:1 301 redirect map from Magento URL keys to Shopify handles — with reserved-path and locale checks — plus taxes, shipping profiles and payments configured and tested with real carts. Then we rehearse the cutover.

6. Launch & hypercare

A managed DNS cutover, then hypercare: redirect and 404 monitoring, order-to-customer association checks, rankings watched daily, and rate/tax spot-checks — because a migration can look fine in admin while accounts or orders quietly break.

The hard parts most tools skip

Bridge migrators move entities, then stop exactly where the expensive decisions begin. These are the Magento-specific challenges we handle up front:

ChallengeHow we handle it
Configurable & bundle productsMagento configurable, bundle and grouped products don’t map 1:1 to Shopify. We normalise them into products, variants and metafields — and flag any product that would blow past Shopify’s 2,048-variant limit before it breaks your build.
Extensions & custom PHPEvery Magento module is audited and given a plan: native Shopify, app, Function/UI extension, or retire. We also catch 2026 deprecations (Scripts, Script Tags, checkout changes) so nothing lands on a dead API.
Customer accounts & passwordsPasswords can’t be migrated. We plan the account experience up front — Shopify’s passwordless accounts, invite flows, and B2B/SSO where needed — so customers aren’t locked out on day one.
Historical ordersOrder history is where subtle integrity bugs hide. We import in the right sequence and verify order-to-customer association, so purchase history actually shows in customer accounts — not just in the admin.
Multi-store & B2BMagento’s websites/stores/views become Shopify Markets (currency, language, domains, pricing, taxes) or separate stores — a decision we make with you in discovery, with B2B catalogs and corporate pricing mapped deliberately.
SEO & URL continuityMagento and Shopify URLs differ structurally. We protect your top organic pages first, then apply bulk redirect rules, then handle exceptions and market subfolders — and monitor Search Console through launch.

Why move from Magento to Shopify?

  • Reliability on your biggest days — no more peak-event outages; Shopify runs the infrastructure and checkout.
  • Lower total cost — no Magento hosting, security patching or extension licences to maintain.
  • Higher-converting checkout — Shopify checkout with Shop Pay is among the best-converting in ecommerce.
  • Simpler operations — your team manages the store without developers or servers in the loop.

Honest note: if you have deep custom Magento logic, complex B2B pricing or ERP/OMS integrations, we'll map exactly what it takes to rebuild each one on Shopify — and tell you before you commit, not after.

Frequently asked questions

How do I migrate from Magento to Shopify?

The safe pattern is not a one-click import. It is: audit your Magento store and design the Shopify target model, dry-run the data into a development store (products first, then customers, then historical orders), rebuild the theme and replace extensions with apps or Functions, build a full 301 redirect map, configure taxes/shipping/payments, rehearse the cutover, then switch DNS and run hypercare. PRP Webs handles the whole program end to end.

Will I lose my Google rankings migrating from Magento to Shopify?

Not if it is done properly. Magento and Shopify have different URL structures, so the critical work is a complete 1:1 redirect map from your Magento URL keys to Shopify handles, carried-over metadata, and reserved-path and locale checks. We protect your top organic pages first, export a ranking baseline before we start, and monitor rankings daily after launch. Public failures almost always trace back to broken redirects or wrong international targeting — which is exactly what our process guards against.

What happens to my Magento extensions and custom code?

Every Magento extension and custom module is audited and given one of four outcomes: it’s native in Shopify, it’s replaced with an app, it’s rebuilt as a Shopify Function or UI extension, or it’s retired. We also check for 2026 deprecations so nothing is rebuilt on an API that’s going away. You get a clear must-rebuild / replace / retire decision log before the build starts.

How are configurable and bundle products handled?

Magento configurable, bundle and grouped products don’t translate directly to Shopify’s product-and-variant model. We design the mapping first — parent products to Shopify products, child products to variants, complex kits to bundle apps or merchandising — and we flag any product that would exceed Shopify’s 2,048-variant limit so it’s split before it breaks the import.

Can you migrate my historical orders and customers?

Yes. Customers and their addresses migrate as profiles; historical orders migrate after products and customers so the relationships hold. Passwords cannot be carried over from any platform, so we plan invites or Shopify’s passwordless sign-in. We verify order-to-customer association after import, because orders can look correct in the admin yet fail to appear in a customer’s account without it.

How much does a Magento to Shopify migration cost?

Our migrations start from $1,800 (which includes the full Shopify store build) plus $0.50 per product migrated, plus any paid import-app costs. Complex Magento estates — multi-store, B2B, heavy custom logic or ERP/OMS integrations — are quoted higher based on scope. Either way you get a fixed, itemised quote before any work begins.

How long does a Magento to Shopify migration take?

A clean, small catalogue can move in 3–6 weeks. Most mid-market Magento migrations run 8–16 weeks, and enterprise, B2B or multi-store estates run 3–6+ months. Timeline depends mostly on custom logic, store topology and data cleanliness — we give you a fixed timeline after discovery.
